Let's be honest; running a business has pros and cons and can push us to a point where we skip taking care of ourselves before returning to business. This holiday weekend, we will discuss resting, relaxing, and problem-solving! Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup, so you must care for yourself.
Rest
When we discuss rest, there's often some feeling of guilt or the need to keep being productive. This can appear in multiple ways, especially if you wear multiple hats, such as being a business owner, partner, parent, caretaker, employee, and more. Let's think about it, you're taking care of everyone else, but are you taking care of yourself? This leads to burnout, lack of motivation, and/or unclear thinking on tackling an issue. From personal experience, I have found that if I do not prioritize rest, especially during a hectic week, I tend to have an increased level of irritability and frustration when working on a solution for a problem in any aspect of my personal life. That may trickle into your professional or business life, impacting your business, employees, clients/customers, and business partners if you don't take a moment to rest your body and mind.
Relax
Relaxation can be a tricky thing. Our minds can prevent us from relaxing for the time we need before we get back to the tasks that need to be completed. Relaxing ties into rest so we can allow our minds and bodies to take a break before we work on a task or goal. But it's something we need to make time for. If you are planning to go on vacation, work should be the last thing on your mind. I'm guilty of not following this because I may feel guilty about not being online for my full-time or part-time role and running a business. But resting and relaxing is something we need to incorporate into our schedules, no matter how that may look for YOU! Again, you cannot pour from an empty cup unless yours is full, so please rest and relax!
Problem Solve
Once you take time out for yourself and disconnect for a moment, you can approach any problems with a fresh mind and provide solutions to solve those problems. Not only does this improve the customer experience and conversation, it can also help improve employee experience and employee-related concerns.
The moral of the study is to take time for yourself so you can show up for yourself, your employees, business partners, and customers to provide everyone with a great experience, productive work sessions, and interactions.
We hope this insight helps with self-care as a business owner or anyone who serves at any level of an organization!
